Bulgaria is one of the most ancient European countries
The first Bulgarian Kingdom was founded in VII century (681) by khan Asparuch. Located in Southeastern Europe, Bulgaria is bordered by Romania to the north, where the Danube river is a natural border between two countries, Black Sea to the east, Greece and Turkey to the south and Macedonia and Serbia to the west.

Natural and cultural features
Relief: The relief of Bulgaria is very varied.One third of the country is covered by mountains and the rest are plains and valleys.
The biggest mountains are Stara Planina /Balkan Mountains/ which run laterally trough the middle of the country and separate the North Bulgaria from the South.
On the South are also Rila, Pirin and Rhodopes. The most notable topographical features are the Danubian Plain and the Thracian Plain.
Climate: The climate is mainly continental with hot and dry summers and cold, snowy winters (-1.30C an average temperature).
Tourism: The tourism in Bulgaria is fast growing. Many foreign tourists choose Bulgaria not only because the wonderful sea or ski resorts, but for the watering-places, for the historical and cultural tourism, for the ecological and rural tourism, hunting and fishing, tourism viticultural.
For discovery in Bulgaria: Bulgaria is well known by its historical monuments, archeological finds coming from the Roman times, it tasty cuisine, its natural products like a Rose oil, Yogourt, honey, medicinal herbs, wines and unique folklore.
How to go in Bulgaria:
Since 2007 Bulgaria is a member of EU, so you need your identity carte only for your trip there.
It’s good to have your passeport also, in case you wish to rent a car.
There are many cheap flights from all European capitals and big cities to Sofia, Varna, Burgas.
If you prefer to travel by car , you will need a vignette which must be sticked on the wind-screen of your vehicle.
You can buy it in the border offices, in the post-offices, in the petrol stations like Shell, OMV, EKO.
You can buy a vignette for one week, one month or one year depending of you stay.
